We only collect what is strictly necessary to make your kitchen life easier:

Email, display name, and hashed passwords (we never see your “real” password).

Your Kitchen Data

Recipes, meal plans, shopping lists, and nutrition preferences.

Payment Info

Processed securely via Stripe, Google Pay or Apple Pay. We do not store or see your credit card numbers.

Technical Data

Authentication tokens and local preferences stored in your browser to keep you logged in.

Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics provider that does not use cookies and does not collect personal data. Plausible helps us understand general usage patterns (such as page views and popular features) without identifying individual users.

3. Why We Use Your Data

We process data based on the following legal grounds under UK GDPR:

• To fulfil our contract with you — managing your account and providing the Mealiv service.
• Legitimate interests — improving our app, ensuring security, and basic service communications.
• Consent — for anything extra, like marketing emails (which you can opt out of anytime).

We work with a limited number of trusted third-party service providers to operate the Service.

5. The “Mealiv Rapid Shop” Extension

Our browser extension is built with a privacy-first philosophy:

• Zero tracking — it does not collect, store, or transmit your data to us or any third party.
• Local only — it acts as a bridge between your Mealiv tab and your supermarket tab.
• No “reading” — it interacts with retailer buttons (Tesco, Sainsbury’s, ASDA) but does not read your order history or personal details.

6. Data Security & Location

• Encryption — all data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.
• International transfers — some of our providers operate outside the UK (e.g. USA). Where this occurs, we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) to ensure your data remains protected.
• Retention — we keep your data only as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we aim to delete your data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal or regulatory reasons (e.g. financial records).
