2. The Service

Mealiv is a food and meal planning web application that allows you to:

Search and view nutritional information for food products
Create and manage meals with ingredient tracking
Save and organise recipes in a personal cookbook
Build and manage shopping lists
Plan weekly meals with a meal planner
Scan product barcodes for quick lookup
Discover recipe inspiration from external sources

3. Account Registration

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account
You must provide accurate and complete information when registering
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised use of your account
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms

4. Free and Premium Services

4.1 Free Tier

The core features of Mealiv are available free of charge, including product search, meal building, cookbook, and shopping lists.

4.2 Free Trial

We offer a 30-day free trial of premium features. The trial begins when you explicitly activate it, not upon registration. No payment details are required to start a trial. When the trial period expires, you will revert to the free tier unless you subscribe to a premium plan.

4.3 Premium Subscription

Premium features (such as the Meal Planner) are available via a paid subscription
Payments are processed securely by Stripe
Subscription prices are displayed at the time of purchase and may be updated with reasonable notice
Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled before the renewal date

4.4 Cancellation and Refunds

You may cancel your premium subscription at any time from your account settings
Upon cancellation, you retain access to premium features until the end of the current billing period
Refunds are handled in accordance with the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you believe you are entitled to a refund, please contact us within 14 days of purchase.

5. User Content

5.1 Ownership

You retain ownership of all content you create on the Service, including meals, recipes, shopping lists, and meal plans ("User Content"). By using the Service, you grant us a limited licence to store, display, and process your User Content solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.

5.2 Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

Upload content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, or otherwise objectionable
Impersonate any person or entity
Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service or other users' accounts
Use automated tools (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without our permission
Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure

5.3 Content Removal

We reserve the right to remove any User Content that violates these Terms, without prior notice.

6. Third-Party Data and Services

6.1 Food Product Data

Nutritional information displayed on the Service is sourced primarily from Open Food Facts, a free and open database. While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all product data is complete, current, or error-free.

6.2 Recipe Data

Recipe inspiration features use data from third-party sources including TheMealDB, DummyJSON, and Spoonacular. This content is provided for informational purposes and we do not claim ownership of third-party recipe content.

6.3 Cooking Videos

Cooking videos are sourced from YouTube via the YouTube API. These videos are hosted by YouTube and subject to YouTube's Terms of Service.

6.4 Imported Recipes

Important: Recipes imported from third-party websites are for your own personal use only and must not be shared, redistributed, published, or made publicly available through the Service or any other means.

The Service allows you to import recipes from external websites into your personal cookbook for your convenience. By using this feature, you acknowledge and agree that:

Imported recipe content (including ingredients, instructions, images, and any other data) remains the intellectual property of the original author or rights holder
Digital Ideations Limited stores imported recipe data solely to provide a convenient personal reference for you and does not control, own, or claim any rights to the intellectual property contained within imported recipes
You are responsible for ensuring that your use of imported recipes complies with the original website's terms of use and applicable copyright law
Imported recipes are stored in your private account and must not be shared with other users, exported for commercial purposes, or republished in any form
Digital Ideations Limited accepts no liability for any copyright infringement arising from your use of the recipe import feature

If you are a recipe author or rights holder and believe your content has been imported in a manner that infringes your rights, please contact us and we will take prompt action to remove the content in question.

7. Nutritional Information Disclaimer

Important: Mealiv is provided for informational purposes only and should not be used as a substitute for professional dietary, nutritional, or medical advice. Nutritional data may be incomplete or inaccurate. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before making dietary changes, especially if you have allergies, intolerances, or medical conditions.

We do not guarantee the accuracy of nutritional information, allergen data, or dietary classifications (e.g. vegan, gluten-free)
Dietary flags and scores (NutriScore, NOVA, Eco-Score) are provided by third-party databases and may not reflect the most current product formulations
Always check product packaging for the most up-to-date information, particularly regarding allergens

8. Intellectual Property

The Mealiv name, logo, design, and original content are our intellectual property
The Service's source code, design, and features are protected by copyright
You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without our written permission

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service
Our total liability for any claim related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (or £100 if you are a free user)
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law

10. Availability and Modifications

We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access
